The black men and a goat

Recently in the media this ad was pulled by Mountain Dew  for obvious reasons. The ad was created by the group of Odd Future who are included in the ad but the racial profiling in this ad is pretty obvious. Obviously racial profiling in advertising is still prevalent with ads like this being aired on television to the public. I don't think racial profiling in advertising is a thing of the past and probably will never be because someone somehow will analyze an ad to be racial profiling somehow.
As for advertisers having ethical responsibilities, there is a toss up between them having the responsibility to turn down racially profiling ads and the idea that if they don't do it someone else will and make money from it. So i believe they should keep there ethical responsibilities first if that's what they wanna be about, but there is always going to be ad agencies that are willing to drop the ethical part and do the ad to make money not gain respect.

The best a man can get (back then) Somatics

The razor company Gillette produced a ad campaign a few years back using a few famous athletes as there basis for there product. An ad like this was seen in magazines directed toward the men reading and tried to help them think that they were goign to get this clean shave just like this "clean" family men posted above. The athletes posted like Tiger Woods were the family men that had no problems and were successful and loving to there kids and wife, but we all know about Tiger Woods now. They used the black clothes to emphasize there faces so you notice the close shave that can be seen.

The tv ad used in this campaign featured Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, and Alex Rodriquez all who are names know to family as star athletes. In the ad the athletes are walking through a town and wearing matching outfits but different shoes that match there sports, Alex with some smooth leather shoes because is a baseball player a manly sport in the minds of many, Tiger has on golfing shoes because its what he is all about, and Roger has heeled shoes which come off a little girly but he is still confident with this shave he has gotten from these razors. They all check themselves out in a window where they feel there face and hair but only look at it for a few seconds because they know they look good.

Then there are ads like this, Nike's own outside ad. Nike here takes urban ads to a new level with the idea of taking there product and putting it into the public's view in a new way. They took a building added a soccer ball and added the repercussions that it would make if you say kicked this Nike ball into a building. This is that its so good that you can damage a building with one of your kicks.

Baby of the Stock market, Grey NY

The ad agency of Grey New-York is responsible in my opinion for some of the best tv ads to ever run. The e-trade baby commercials where a baby who is sitting in a high chair is able to talk to you in a grown up voice and discuss trading stocks to somebody on the phone. This ad give alot of credit in my mind to etrade by helping show the idea that its so easy a baby can do it. The ad agency that can be found in over 96 countries and is a company that has many large clients including Volkswagen, canon, and direct TV. This company was founded in 1917 and has been growing ever since, the company has over 7 subsidiaries and has won 10 Cannes Lions. The Ad Agency had over a billion dollars worth of revenue in 2003.
The agency has been featured in modern culture such as the show Mad Men and the show Dumb and Living Off Mum. The agency also offers things such as public relation help and marketing strategies to the clients of the firm and has the capability of spreading a brand to over 432 offices around the globe.

Tiger Woods and a Logo

Advertising

When i look at advertising i instantly thing of one of the most recognizable logos in the world and that would be the Nike swoosh. Nike is a company that has pushed there distribution all over the world and can be seen fitting in to any sort of society. Nike has used advertising to create a massive company that has people wearing there products everyday. When we look at there advertising techniques we see a trend in taking some of best athletes in the world and making them there own, we can look at Tiger Woods who is arguably the best golfer to ever walk the earth. He is has been Nike everything since the beginning of his golf career. Nike has used his name to create many sub-brands of Nike like the Victory red golf club line or the Tiger Woods line. This can also be seen in people like Micheal Jordan who has his own shoe line that are some of the most popular shoes in the world.  Nike has used mass advertising to create a meaning behind there logo like no other company has accomplished and showed the world what was possible from mass media.
